Chrysler to match ‘cash for clunkers’ incentive

To the people that keep asking about requirements of the program, please read here:

http://www.cars.gov/

How do I know if my car or truck is an eligible trade-in vehicle under the CARS program?

There are several requirements (but you also have to meet certain conditions for the car or truck you wish to buy). Your dealer can help you determine whether you have an eligible trade in vehicle.

Your trade-in vehicle must

have been manufactured less than 25 years before the date you trade it in
have a “new” combined city/highway fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon or less
be in drivable condition
be continuously insured and registered to the same owner for the full year preceding the trade-in
The trade-in vehicle must have been manufactured not earlier than 25 years before the date of trade in and, in the case of a category 3 vehicle, must also have been manufactured not later than model year 2001
Note that work trucks (i.e., very large pickup trucks and cargo vans) have different requirements.

Check your vehicle mpg :
The official place to check would be www.fueleconomy.gov. It offers a comparison tool as well so you can see if the new car you are buying would get you $0, $3500, or $4500.

Window Tint FAQs

Well for all of you guys looking to go get your windows tinted you have come to the right place.

What is window tint?
Automobile window tinting, by its nature, reduces the visible light transmittance through a car’s windows

What do the percentages mean?
The percentages that window tint comes in is how much light is allowed to be let in by the window. For example, a 50% window tint will allow 50% of light inside the car, whereas a 5% tint will only allow 5% of the light from outside in. When you go to look for which window tint you want keep in mind that the lower the percentage the darker it is.

How low can I go?
It depends on state to state. Look here: Window Tint Laws By State. What you have to keep in mind is that the lower you go the harder it is to see in the car AND the harder it is to see outside of the car. My car has 15% tint on it and at night it can be hard to see outside of my windows. My friend has 3% tint and you can just straight up forget looking out your windows at night.

Should I do the windshield?
That is up to you. It is illegal in most if not all states. When tinting the windshield I would stay in the 40% and up range. Tinting the windshield will greatly affect the darkness of your inside tint as well because less light is in the car. Driving at night with windshield tint is not that hard at all if you have HID’s. With normal halogens it might be a little trouble but nothing too bad.

What kind of tint should I get?
When you go looking for tint you can get a bunch of different colors and types. There are blue tints, green tints, and yellow tints. You can also go with a charcoal like tint or just straight up black. Metallic tint is a tint that looks almost like a mirror instead of being black. This tint makes it harder for the person on the outside to see inside your car.

Where should I go?
There are TONS of tint shops, some good, some bad. I would make sure I get a lifetime warranty for color change and bubbling.

My tint has bubbles!! What do I do?
When you first get your tint applied you will see bubbles for the first 3-4 days. Make sure you DON’T roll down your windows for those days. The bubbles will eventually dry. If they do not then I would take it back to the tint shop immediately and demand it be re-done. If bubbling occurs later on and you do not have a warranty for it you might as well take it off and get it done somewhere that offers a lifetime warranty.

What do you recommend?
Well I would say that if you are just looking for UV protection and a little dark look to your windows go with 50%. If you want to stay legal but have it still look dark and not really have to deal with police I would go with 35%. If you want to match your back windows of your SUV from the factory I would suggest a 20% tint. If you really want some privacy I would go with 15% or lower. If you just straight up don’t want people to see you I would go with my combo…15% on the windows and 35% on the windshield. You could go darker on the windows though.

Question: Buyer asks for Copy of Title

I am in the process of selling a car and have had a few people ask for a copy of the title. This seemed a bit odd and all sorts of nefarious thoughts went through my head.

I did a little research and while the laws vary from State to State it is possible for someone to claim ownership with a copy of a title. There are valid reasons for someone to ask you for a copy so dont fret. If they are working with a smaller bank or financial institution then they may require a copy though this is an antiquated procedure and you probably wont have to deal with this.

In my case I simply made a copy and with Photoshop write the words ‘COPY’ across both the front and back and then printed out the edited copy.

Paintless dent repair (pdr)

Ill start off by mentoining that up until last week i assumed the only ancroymn for PDR (painless dent repair) was for the Physicians Desk Reference. Little did I know there is an entire PDR field that works wonders on your car. I recently had a nice gentleman back up into me and place a nice large dent in my rear quarter panel. Now this was a large dent that pushed the entire panel back about an inch and a half. we exchanged information and I went to my buddies who have a small car lot to see what they could do. They mentioned they had a guy that might be able to get it out but most likely it would need to o through insurance. After a lengthly process the adjuster cut me a check for 1300.

Now enter the magic of PDR. Calin over at Ding Doctor in Arizona was referred by my friends and took a look. He was a little hesitant at first but decided to give it a shot. About 4-5 hours later the car looked great and like new. Calin saved me almost a thousand bucks and also got out all the other dents!

To anyone looking to restore those panels or if they are getting ready to sell a car I implore you to get a pdr specialist in your area to have a look. You will be wondering why you didn’t do this earlier.

Auto Parts Discounts

Shopping online can save you enough money to make the shipping wait worthwhile. A few tips on getting discounts on autoparts are as follows:

Use Microsoft’s new Cashback Service here: Cashback Stores

Search Fatwallet and Slickdeals

Try eBay for used parts

Another approach to getting a discount at a local store is to go to the local post office and grab a moving kit. More likely than not you will find a local automotive store coupon in their for 25% off any purchase (I have used these on more than a few occasions).
